004 TESTING WITH AN ORGANIC FORM

This is the first test printing an organic form (model is approximately 50mm tall).

Many problems arose in this particular run that will need to be resolved. First, there is difficulty in maintaining a registered nozzle to print bed height. This led to several aborted print run attempts.

There are two solutions: 1) The Z axis endstop switch needs to be adjusted. 2) a different switch needs to be used.

There are other issues as well. Once again, there is not enough filament feed (though the same successful Skeinforge profile from the last run was utilized). There are gaps and wobbled layers. The interior also shows areas of infill that is stringy and insufficient for supporting successive layers.

In order to fix these problems, the next print test will examine the following:

Firmware filament calibration feed setting

Z height

Skipping or under powered extruder. This may be a driver issue.

Physical aspects of the extruder

PID control

A examination of the Durbie profile was made in comparison to a fresh copy. No significant differences were found. There was the possibility of a bad value for retraction settings, but this is not the case.
